How Hydration-Mix changed my life as a 23yo.

I Thought Fatigue Was Just The Price You Pay

At 23, I'm doing a lot.

Morning swim sessions. Endurance blocks. Weight training. Boxing. And now I'm deep in prep for my first HYROX. Not because I was told to — because I genuinely can't sit still. Each discipline gives me something different. The pool gives me stillness. The weights give me control. Boxing sharpens something in me I can't explain. HYROX is the test of all of it at once.

For a long time, I wore the exhaustion like a badge. Heavy legs by the second session of the day. Cramps that would sneak in at the worst possible moment — the final meters of a swim set, the last push of a conditioning block. Mental fog right when sharpness mattered most.

I told myself it was just the grind. That this is what serious training feels like.

I was wrong.


The cramps were the thing that finally made me pay attention.

Not after a brutal session. During one. Mid-swim, I could feel my calf starting to lock. I've been in the water long enough to know how to push through — but when your body starts negotiating with you in the middle of a set, something is off. It kept happening. Different muscles, different sessions, same pattern.

I wasn't undertrained. I wasn't under-sleeping. I was under-fuelled in a way I hadn't considered. Sweating through double sessions every day and replacing nothing but water. My body was running a deficit it never told me about — until it did, loudly, at the worst possible times.


Changing my hydration strategy felt almost too simple at first.

One stick in my bottle before training. That was it. No overhaul. No new programme. Just making sure the five electrolytes my body was burning through actually got put back.

Within two weeks the cramps stopped. Not reduced — stopped.

Then the other things started shifting. Recovery between swim intervals got sharper. I wasn't spending the first ten minutes of an evening session just waking my body back up from the morning. My grip in the weight room felt more consistent from set to set. In boxing — where coordination and timing matter as much as conditioning — I started feeling locked in instead of just present.

And the crashes after training. The ones where you finish a session and feel like you've been wrung out completely. Those got quieter. I'd finish hard work and still feel like a functioning human being. Still feel like myself.


Preparing for HYROX put everything under a microscope.

That race doesn't care about your best discipline. It finds every gap — the place where your cardio fades, where your legs give up, where your mind checks out before your body does. You can't hide. Every marginal gain matters.

Hydration became infrastructure for me. Not an afterthought. Not something I thought about when I was already thirsty. A foundation that everything else gets built on top of. When your cells are actually balanced, the stamina compounds. The clarity compounds. The ability to keep showing up day after day without breaking down — that compounds too.


As a co-founder of Thrive on Five I obviously believe in what we built.

But I didn't build it and then start using it. I started using it and then understood, from the inside, why it had to exist. Because I was the person who needed it before I knew I needed it.

23 years old. Swimmer, hybrid athlete, co-founder. A lot of moving parts.
